Cecabank donates €100,000 to 15 social action projects chosen by its employees

  • Cecabank's Social Action programme "Tú Eliges" (You Choose) once again demonstrates the commitment of employees and the bank in promoting the well-being of society

MADRID, 28 SEPTEMBER 2022.- Cecabank, through its Social Action programme "Tú Eliges", has awarded a total endowment of €100,000 to 15 social, cultural and environmental projects chosen by its employees following an internal voting process. Once again this year, Cecabank's solidarity initiative, now in its eighth year, emphasises the commitment of employees and the bank in promoting projects geared towards generating a positive impact on society.

A total of 24 projects were submitted during this year's call. The initiative that received the most votes from Cecabank employees was the INTHEOS Foundation's childhood cancer research project. The presentation of the donations to the various associations and foundations took place today in the bank's auditorium as part of Cecabank's Solidarity Day.

The Social Action Plan, integrated within the bank's Sustainability Policy, is part of Cecabank's commitment and that of its employees to the implementation of social, cultural and environmental actions. Cecabank, as a member of the Spanish Network of the United Nations Global Compact and aware of the importance of its role as a stakeholder in the financial sector, reinforces its commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) with the "Tú Eliges" programme.

During the Solidarity Day, the traditional Solidarity Market was also organised, to which various associations and foundations, participants in other editions of "Tú Eliges", were invited. In addition, a Spanish Red Cross blood donation centre has been set up for all the institution's employees.

In the words of Juan Carlos López, Head of Sustainability at Cecabank: "The bank and all the staff are aware of social problems, and specifically those that affect the most disadvantaged groups. The "Tú Eliges" programme, now in its eighth year, is an example of Cecabank's firm commitment to supporting social, cultural and environmental projects that focus on improving the well-being of society and the most vulnerable".

Cecabank, a bank with a strong social commitment and a deep spirit of solidarity

Cecabank pursues its social responsibility through initiatives aligned with its corporate characteristics and objectives; the bank and its staff are aware of social problems and specifically those that affect the most disadvantaged groups. Throughout 2022, Cecabank has once again displayed a strong social commitment through various solidarity initiatives. Once again it has collaborated with the Spanish Emergency Committee, responding to the appeal for humanitarian aid "Ayudemos a Ucrania" (Let's help Ukraine) and raising - between all employees and the bank - the amount of €37,120. Cecabank also joined the wave of solidarity with the island of La Palma following the eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano in 2021. As part of its commitment to the most disadvantaged groups, the bank has helped the Asociación Niños Especiales de La Palma (NEP), which saw access to its facilities affected by the lava. And it maintains a close relationship with the Madrid Food Bank and the Red Cross to participate in various campaigns. The bank is also committed to financial education, digitalisation and social action, as reflected in its donations of computer equipment to the Sanders Foundation and the Regional Government of Madrid, corporate volunteering programmes with Junior Achievement, and the construction of computer classrooms at the Real Oratorio del Caballero de Gracia, the Bobath Foundation and the Adisli Foundation for the disabled, the elderly, immigrants and the unemployed.
