The agreement between Cecabank and IBM equips the bank with the best technology to reinforce its resilience and capacity to adapt to changes in the environment
MADRID, 13 DECEMBER 2023.- Cecabank, the benchmark custodian bank in Securities Services in Spain and Portugal and a provider of specialised solutions for all types of national and international financial institutions and corporations, is implementing a Technology Plan based on three strategic objectives: drive the bank's business, generate efficiencies in the use of technological resources and enhance operational resilience.
At the midpoint of this Technology Plan, Cecabank has decided to acquire two IBM z16 servers that will be housed in its DPC in Madrid. With this investment, the bank gains access to state-of-the-art technology in the mainframe environment and strengthens its relationship with IBM, the manufacturer of IBM Z technology and a global benchmark in technological innovation.
Specifically, IBM z16 offers Cecabank differential technological advantages, first and foremost, enhanced cryptographic capabilities that reach the category of "quantum-safe", that is, protection against data theft attacks with quantum processing capabilities. As well as advantages in terms of sustainability, as the energy efficiency and features of IBM z16 contribute to reducing the carbon footprint and energy consumption, promoting a more sustainable immediate future for Cecabank.
The Z16 also offers an increase in performance thanks to the new Telum processor, including the advantages of having an AI accelerator integrated into the chip; as well as improvements in availability and resilience through the Flex Capacity capability, among other features, which allows the process of transferring loads to be carried out proactively and production to be maintained in a single server on a prolonged basis.
In addition, Cecabank welcomes the IBM Z Secure and Compliance Center solution embedded in the z16 series insofar as it facilitates the validation of regulatory compliance with various standards, such as PCI, a benchmark in the field of payments.
Antonio Romero, Corporate Director of Association Services and Resources at Cecabank, highlighted: "This new agreement with IBM strengthens our commitment to cybersecurity, efficiency and sustainability; ultimately, it will enable us to better serve our customers and prepare us for a future full of exciting challenges in the world of technology".
"Cecabank's commitment to technology, and in particular to z16, will be an enabler for the differentiation of its services. It will enable us to address new challenges such as the custody of digital assets, the protection of customer data from quantum technologies and exponentially use AI tools, among others. All this with the security and agility required today and always guaranteeing business continuity in the most efficient manner", explained Ángela Alfaro, IBM Mainframe Director for Spain, Portugal, Greece and Israel.
For IBM, Cecabank's commitment to technology as an area for creating value through the implementation of IBM z16 and its approach to technological innovation is a milestone in the modernisation of Cecabank and reinforces its commitment to sustainability and the drive towards a digital future.
